The day of reckoning

Its very sad for a parent to realise that they are not capable of taking care of their child's need. This was an opening statement from a mother who was seeking assistance to take her teenage doughter to high school. The girl passed highly but I have to face her and tell her I failed you since I cant keep my end of the burgain.  It was not always like this my mother strugglled single handedly with the 9 of us and made sure we got a decent education and were upright tax payers.  I looked at the Mama and wondered has it come to this? Gone are the days when uncles could volunteer to pay something for their relatives or the church or just any welwisher.  No this is not true there are many more opportunities for our children to persue education than they were before, unfortunately and this is true for this mama, the information is with a select few and these enjoy the benefits of charity while the real beneficiaries oogle in poverty and continue in its cycle.  Take the mama for example I was just concerned that she was sad and started a converstion to cheer her up, only to learn her girl qualified for most of the scholarship opportunities around but she had never heard of any of the organisations I mentioned, I only know a handful.  Later when we met she was even more sad, her girl couldnt get the support beacause she has both parents, and there are more needy ''orphans'' Oh like its a bad thing to have both parents, and you are better of as an orphan. Yes some have both parents yes even if some stopped contributing to your life after conception. I have spent many sleepless nights aguing with myself about this creteria but I suppose, parents have to help their children even when they may not and we have to help them do so.
