All Souls Day 2025
Today on all souls day i want to recount the loss my family has gone through and to pray for the souls of all the dear departed, but specifically from my family,.
My mother was an orphan, she does not remember much of her mother, she has memories of her father but he too died before she was a teenager. My mom's family only has one sibling currently alive.
My dad's parents died before I was born, my grandfather was burnt in his hut in Nyagatugu village dring the emergency (1952-1958) due to his Maumau dealings, two of my uncles disappeared then never to be traced again. His mother died in 1973. The whole of my dad's family is deceased.
The first death in my nuclear family happened when I was too young, I do not remember much and what I know is mixed up from stories and my own memories. My sister the one I immediately follow was knocked down by a car just outside St Theresa's Catholic Church while crossing the road to attend mass, together with her classmates. Immediately after I was transferred from Kibuye Nursay school.
The next death and the ones following are very painfull as they happened when I was already grown and also following each other very quickly.
Wanja, our second born died under unclear circumstances, 'I have never healed' in 1996, I was in college, three months later Kinywa the 5th born died of complications due to misdiagnosis of highland malaria.
In 2000 Jogoo died and then Wambui in 2002 and Chege in 2004.
This is the list of the children in chronological order of Birth
Njoki
Wanja
Jogoo/ Maina
Wambui
Kinywa
Chege
Wanjiru
Wacuka
Mwangi
All the people between Njoki and myself are gone what pain my mother must have felt, to watch your children die one by one.
As if that was not enough we lost Allan Njoki's husband in 2002, Mary, Jogoos wife in 2005 and Achala Wanja's husband in 2014, in that same year we lost Adrian Njoki and Allan's son.
My parents death have come later, my dad in 2018 and mum in 2024.
So Lord this is too Much
May their souls rest in peace.
May perpetual light shile upon their souls and the souls of all dear departed.
